Paint the town red

9:00am Thursday 12th October 2006

By Reader letter »

In response to Celia Jordan's letter in last week's Guardian The town's best interest'.

My letter was neither confused or confusing as stated by Celia, and whether or not she meant her statement about the price of democracy to appear as it did in the report in the Guardian the previous week; that is how it appeared.

If she had taken the time to not worry whether yet another person was sniping about her and concentrate on what I actually said - she would have realised that I was in support of the development control committee and the very difficult task it has under the rules given to it by the Government.

I also fully understand the situation about how the appeal arose and so, no doubt, do many of your readers. It is unfortunate that some of our local representatives treat the constituents as if they know or understand nothing.

The point I was making, was that when it suits, councillors with influence can be minded to support a direction of decision-making what on the face of it was doomed to fail. This led not only to a costly outcome for the taxpayers of Warrington, but also will lead those on this committee (whose work I applaud), to lose confidence in their decision making and ability to object to improper development when the time comes.

I say to the development control committee: Keep up the good work, fight on behalf of Warrington residents to help protect and improve our built environment from the current wave or inappropriate buildings that are currently proposed.

Don't let them paint the town red.
